Governing
Our Governing Council plays an important role in the life and direction of Plympton Primary School. It brings together parents, staff and the Principal to ensure that the voices and perspectives of our school community contribute to decisions about the future of our school.
The Governing Council works in partnership with the Principal and school leadership to provide governance and strategic oversight. While the day-to-day management and educational leadership of the school are the responsibility of the Principal, Governing Council contributes to the broader direction of the school and helps ensure that our priorities reflect the needs and aspirations of our community.
What does Governing Council do?
Our Governing Council:
- contributes to the vision and strategic direction of the school
- provides community perspectives on school priorities and improvement
- participates in strategic planning and reviews relevant school policies
- provides oversight of school finances and the use of available resources
- oversees the governance of our Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) service
- considers matters relating to our facilities, grounds and broader school community
- provides an important connection between families, the school and our wider community.
Council meetings provide an opportunity for members to hear about current school priorities, student learning and wellbeing, finances, facilities and other developments, as well as to contribute ideas and perspectives from our community.
Getting involved
We value parent and carer involvement and welcome people with a wide range of experiences, perspectives and skills. You don’t need previous governance experience or specialist knowledge to contribute – an interest in our school and a willingness to work collaboratively for the benefit of all students are what matter most.
Parents and carers can become involved as elected members of Governing Council or through one of our subcommittees and working groups. These provide opportunities to contribute to particular areas of school life, including:
- Finance
- Grounds and Facilities
- Out of School Hours Care
- Events
- Sport
- Wellbeing.
Membership nominations are generally sought in preparation for our Annual General Meeting, with further information shared with families at the appropriate time.
Connecting with Governing Council
Our Governing Council representatives welcome input from our school community. Families are encouraged to speak with a representative or contact Governing Council if they have ideas or perspectives relating to the broader direction and development of our school.
Questions or concerns relating to an individual child, classroom matter or day-to-day school operation should continue to be directed to the relevant staff member or school leadership team.
